FAA bans drones over these locations...

The FAA and DOI have agreed to restrict drone flights up to 400 feet within the lateral boundaries of these sites:

Statue of Liberty National Monument, New York, NY
Boston National Historical Park (U.S.S. Constitution), Boston, MA
Independence National Historical Park, Philadelphia, PA
Folsom Dam; Folsom, CA
Glen Canyon Dam; Lake Powell, AZ
Grand Coulee Dam; Grand Coulee, WA
Hoover Dam; Boulder City, NV
Jefferson National Expansion Memorial; St. Louis, MO
Mount Rushmore National Memorial; Keystone, SD
Shasta Dam; Shasta Lake, CA

Except most of the people flying drones don’t even know or care that the FAA exists.... you know, restricted airspace, controlled airspace, banned airspace doesn’t apply to them because it’s just a toy

My thoughts exactly. It’s really an invalid enforcement in all reality.

At least it gives the local cops a legitimate way to tell people not to fly drones in those areas. They can be a nuisance and something of a hazard.

But it isn't going to stop anyone with bad intentions.
 
Oh c'mon, we can't include airports now can we? You know, airports. Where real airplanes fly in and out of with real people. Nah let's protect the monuments and parks. Don't want a crapping pigeon getting taken out after all.

Not sure the rule is even going to “protect” any of these places, anyway.

But the real “fun” with these things is going to be the first time someone uses a fleet of them, flying autonomously via software, to wreak havoc somewhere.

Isn’t ever going to be a law that’ll protect against that.
 
its always been 400 cutoff for us here in California,,now that everyoen and their mothers fly quad copters, FAA needs to up their game, all teh sudden everyone things they are pilots

It's "400agl" everywhere, but that's just a recommendation, not a law. That includes 400ft over structures like buildings, towers, etc.
