Touchdown! Greaser!
Shuster was interviewed just a few minutes ago on tv and again, used Canada and multiple other countries as examples of how privatization works. What Shuster and other advocates happily ignore is that the US has the largest number of daily flights and more international flights either originating or ending (regardless of category) than any other country, probably more than multiple countries put together. So that argument fails.
The next argument he puts forth is that the US ATC is working with less than modern technologies. Well, golly gee Uncle Bob, if the FAA Procurement process in the late 80s hadn't been such as disaster with FAA infighting and multiple contractors having hissy fits because they weren't awarded the contract, and the ones that did get contracts kept re-inventing the wheel, we'd have modern technology. That was $9 billion down the drain in 80's dollars. But thank you very much for paying my salary for 4 years. Appreciate it.
Someone, other than our 3 acronyms (AOPA, EAA, NBAA) needs to get very visible and counter his arguments with the facts.
