Shuster was interviewed just a few minutes ago on tv and again, used Canada and multiple other countries as examples of how privatization works. What Shuster and other advocates happily ignore is that the US has the largest number of daily flights and more international flights either originating or ending (regardless of category) than any other country, probably more than multiple countries put together. So that argument fails.

The next argument he puts forth is that the US ATC is working with less than modern technologies. Well, golly gee Uncle Bob, if the FAA Procurement process in the late 80s hadn't been such as disaster with FAA infighting and multiple contractors having hissy fits because they weren't awarded the contract, and the ones that did get contracts kept re-inventing the wheel, we'd have modern technology. That was $9 billion down the drain in 80's dollars. But thank you very much for paying my salary for 4 years. Appreciate it.

Someone, other than our 3 acronyms (AOPA, EAA, NBAA) needs to get very visible and counter his arguments with the facts.

If ATC gets privatized it will likely have a negative impact on GA at those airports where commercial ops coincide. Also, who will fund it? If it's taxation then fuel prices are going way up, and usage fees might appear everywhere.

Lot of US Congress members fly GA, even to small airports, especially during campaign time (and to meet donaters). So they may not be interested in the plan.

And truth to tell, a lot of Congress members have discovered the advantage of talking a lot but doing nothing.

So very true. Here in AK they normally extend the session 30 days or more and get a ridicules high daily expense for the extended session . They talk but nothing gets done..:(

That exact same argument was made regarding what POTUS's position would be.

Our biggest hope in fighting this is that members of congress won't want to give up oversight of our nation's airspace; and they shouldn't. And the best argument against this whole BS scheme for Sheister - I mean Schuster - and his lobbyist girlfriend is that congress is entirely at fault here. If they would do their jobs and carry out a normal appropriations process, there wouldn't be a problem.

The way ATC is funded now should be the model for everything government does. It is efficient and egalitarian. I would argue the only such program in the entire federal government.

The annual user fee for a typical small airplane in Canada, which includes ATC fees, is cost of an AOPA membership.

AOPA will spend their big reserves to protect the business jets.

If we could do it like Canada I wouldn't complain. Keeping it like Canada though is the issue.

No congress critter ever lost his job for just talking.
If it is not a recorded vote, he can have it anyway he likes it.

Which ones get fired anymore for their recorded votes? They might be thrown out of their particular flavor of cultists, which affects the money flow for their re-election, but nobody votes out any of them for their recorded votes unless the wrath of their particular cult leaders is brought down upon them.
