FAA and Digitally Signing Documents

Not sure specifically, but most official documents have a pdf format that allows you to type your name and the program inserts an electronically generated signature of your name - this becomes the "digitally signed" signature.
 
Adobe does it, so does MS Word.

ETA, when the “signature” is applied, a read-only version is saved. If that version is altered, the “signature” is removed and a notice is displayed that the signature is invalid.
 
Learn something new every day. I thought this required a service you had to pay for but it looks like Adobe will do it, as mentioned above. Thanks!
