You clearly don't understand. This airplane replaces about 3 dozen other types which would be necessary if we didn't have a multi-purpose aircraft.

So we're saving the R&D costs on 35 platforms. ;-)

Depends on what you mean by 'works as advertised'

Yes, the STOVL function works quite well.

The other fancy tech has a long way to go, and integrating that tech with the ship even further. The DOT&E report on the OT-1 was rather scathing.
