Can an eye exam from your eye doctor be used instead of the wall eye-chart exam at your AME's office ? I test better that 20/20 at my annual eye exam but I can't do that with that eye chart at my AME's office.

Does it matter if it's an Ophthalmologist or Optometrist ?
If so, how far in advance can you have an exam done ?

Same questions. I'm interested in the response, as well.

I dont' know about other regions, but in mine, a Opthalmologist (not optometrist) on an 8500-7 withing 90 days preceeding can be taken in lieu of the visual part of the exam. It's gotta specify 20 foot, 32" and 18" acuity each eye, corrected, and uncorrected or it's a bust. Gotta be on the 8500-7. Just how it is here.

I don't think there is a national "op spec" on this as it is an uncommon request.
