I remember someone showing me a comanche-esque experimental and/or kitbuilt plane, does it ring a bell to anyone?

Sounds like it outperforms the RV10.....?

I believe it has crashed taking the owner too. Not too sure on the continued existence of the program

I'd forgotten about that. I don't think it was the company owner, though, who appears to be based in South Africa. The accident aircraft was built by the US distributor at the time, but he wasn't onboard.

If memory serves, the accident aircraft was equipped with a Corvette engine, and had suffered an earlier inflight fire. Pilot reported smoke in the cockpit:

Sounds like you were talking about Bud Warren and his company.

I remember both the fire and the later fatal crash.

Looks a lot like the Epic Escape. It would appear they missed their February 2012 first flight milestone.

Looks like a Commanche. Could never figure out why someone would build something that looks like a Commanche when they could go buy a Commanche.

I know all the good stuff bout experimental vs. certifides. But if I were going to build an experimental, I wouldn't want it to look like a certified aircraft unless said certified aircraft wasn't readily available.

I assumed Goofy meant the Ravin 700 from EppyGA's link, which is what my Epic Escape comment referred to.

I do agree with you about experimental aircraft aping certified designs - I would think that not just the builder, but also the aircraft's designer would want something more distinctive.
