Excessive steam coming out vent tube(Diesel truck)?

Also, out of curiosity, anyone know what this sensor is? I've never thought about it before so I'm curious.

So none of what they repaired, including the water pump, would account for excessive steam coming out he crankcase vent tube.
 
Probably an ambient air temperature sensor. Do you have an outside temp display?

Huh, yes I do. I think an old F-150 we use to have had the sensor on the roof so I just assumed it'd there, but that makes sense.

On my '08 F-150 it's right above the hood latch on the center support for the radiator. It's remarkably accurate, despite being so close to a heat source.
