I don't think the Greek tragedian Sophocles had today in mind when he wrote that:

These are the highest local sustained winds I've ever seen reported...

It makes more sense when you quote it in the sense Philoctetes spoke it. "Fair" not "fare."

Which is why I'm flying tomorrow. Supposed to be suuuuuper nice tomorrow around here (Midwest in general).

The wife actually asked me if I was going to go flying this morning.

Ummmm. No.

24G40KT at ONZ

My girlfriend and I just flew to ONZ last week. We had dinner at the Airport Inn. Food was good, and we had the whole place to ourselves, the whole night. There wasn't a single car in the lot.

The current METAR at my home drome is showing 30G40. That's a bit sporty for my taste. However, tomorrow there is a $100 hamburger with my name on it!

Time to set your personal best (or worst) ground speed. :D

Looked like a fairly regular metar for a lot of the Midwest, especially with frontal boundaries moving through. Certainly not something I'd want to be out flying in, but 30kt sustained winds aren't all that rare.

Still the highest-for-longest I've seen...and the local power company, DTE, just announced it is the most damaging wind storm in their history.

Yepp, 620k without power in the greater Detroit area...

Stiff wind all day - Willow Run Airport was closed during the day due to a wind related (according to the news) incident...

Gusts were up to 68 mph at KDTW at around noon today...
