Everest Tour Helicopter, 6 Dead, 7/11

The search & rescue helicopter couldn’t land near the site because of ‘adverse weather’. I think that’s a clue.

More on the accident. I've actually flown in a helicopter from this company in Nepal. Their copters are well maintained and their pilots are competent. But it only takes one mistake and the terrain near Lukla is very unforgiving.

At this point, I don't know what's safer in Nepal - taking a helicopter or taking an airplane to your destination. I was leaning towards helicopters until this one, which seems to be another case of get-home-itis in the middle of the monsoon season.

I have flown in a helicopter from the Everest View hotel to Lukla and it was no joke. If I remember correctly nothing flies to Lukla after 1pm because the wind gets so chaotic.

RIP
Sad
Stop aviation crashes, too much lately and I have some big legs upcoming
