Curious how the latch comes out and goes back in, I thought the replacement repaired latch I got would be riveted to the frame that it mounts to, but it isn't and I suspect our a&p is going to throw a proverbial s-fit over it.

Looks like these break often :dunno:

Most of it is sandwiched between the inner and outer skins, and held by rivets, And they are nasty to work on.

If your A&P throws a fit, get one that won't. They should know they have over a barrel. and a prime opportunity you extract a lot of money to fix.

I have a repaired latch, all he needs to do is swap it in. Guy up in washington state fixes the latches sort of cheap, $300 but a lot cheaper than the $1500 for a new one!

Looks like you pull the three screws and the lock and that whole plate/assembly comes out? I assume the lock is riveted to that plate? There's some disagreement among the owners about that, I think it's a rivet, another thinks it's a nut plate based on the parts diagram. Either way, sounds expensive.

The reason I ask, the plate/frame part of the latch broke, and the mechanic wouldn't touch it because it's "all riveted together" and after seeing the repaired lock in hand I suspect he's not going to be too hot on riveting the "new" one in either.
