Ercoupe History(of sorts)

Didn't I hear an Ercoupe was our first jet(assist aircraft) I read it somewhere but question the timing years wise.
Maybe it was non military.
Someone out there knows.

Note the pic in the top of the story. You can tell it's a pub photo cause the plane is featured prominently. So - how did the kid get there? And the wife looks a bit chunky, so how did the woman, the man, and the picnic basket get there with any fuel in the plane?

I can't think of any version of any Ercoupe that would handle that loading.

Three people. It's a two seat plane. Or did they have a luggage compartment child seat?

I don't think the three people and fuel would make it over gross. Let's see, 416 lbs payload. Fuel (21 gal) = 126, man = 170, woman = 120, kid = 35. Total = 451; ok, cut back to 14 gal of fuel. That's still 2 hours with reserve.
