The AIM, Chapter 1, addresses equipment substitutions for IFR flight.

For example, it offers guidance on when GPS can substitute for DME. Or, when GPS can be used in lieu of an ADF, etc.

However, is there a more comprehensive, and authoritative, source that addresses all the substitutions that are allowed, and under what conditions?

No, there is no "more authoritative" document on all subsitutions allowed. However, for your specific installation, these should be addressed in the AFM supplement for your aircraft.

Thanks. I was hoping that was the answer, because I'm not finding anything fully comprehensive -- just scattered notes, memos, articles from the FAA here and there.
