Does anyone happen to know a good way to enter performance data into MS Excel?

I specifically want to enter the cruise performance data for all 3 temperature values, 4 RPM settings, and the pressure altitudes given in the POH and have Excel do the interpolations for values in between. Would a drop-down be the best way to accomplish this?

EDIT: I've figured out how to make the drop downs in MS Excel, but can't quite figure out how to get the performance data (KTAS & GPH) to appear for each PALT & RPM setting. Any ideas?

Jason

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Could you be a bit more specific as to your problem?

I'm not sure why you need a drop down. I'd have a cell for the desired cruise altitude, temperature and probably power.

In general you can use the VLOOKUP function to find the appropriate place in the performance tables. Then some formula cells to interpolate. The help on VLOOKUP gives an example.

I can be more specific if you are.

Hi Joe,

I apologize for not being specific enough. What I would like to do is select a cruise altitude, RPM setting, and temperature and then have excel look up the values in the performance tables and display them in the appropriate cells. After those values are returned, I would then like the interpolated values to be calclulated.

I did some research on the VLOOKUP function after you posted, but I'm not famliar enough with the function to have excel successfully match multiple parameters (altitude & power & temp).

vBulletin won't let me attach the .xls file, so I've uploaded it to my site. Here's the link.
Thanks,

In this "Technicalogically Advanced" era, I am surprised there aren't commercially available products that do this.

I am interested in doing this too. But for my PDA. I am not NEARLY proficient enough at Excel, or whatever, to pull this off myself though.

Sigh.

Thank you.

I think I see the problem. I believe the easiest way to do this will be to reformat your performance tables to make it easier to interpolate.

What airplane is are you using? I may have a PIH on hand.

I'm heading to the airport to take advantage some great weather. I'll see if I can get an outline set up for you over the weekend.

I wonder if a little Java program might be more universal.

Greg - does your PDA have Excel?
