end of the Goose in com usage

Wow. When I worked at KLGB in the early '70s we'd watch the Gooses (Geese?) of Avalon Air Transport, Catalina Airlines and Golden West Airlines in scheduled service from Catalina Island waddling in.

That whole line of birds is just beautiful. (well, maybe not the duck so much...)

Sad... but understandable, given the size of the company. $100K for each annual? Ouch. I guess converting them to turbines wouldn't be worth it for them, either.

"Our biggest problem with the airplane is the landing gear," Seybert said. "We have only one spare set, and once we use that set, there are no more landing gear left in the world."

Federal Aviation Administration rules prohibit them from manufacturing new landing gear, so it's like watching this Goose go extinct one day at a time.

I don't understand this quote. Why won't the FAA let them manufacturer a part? I thought that was done pretty regularly by people that maintain old aircraft.

I wonder if a Tiger part would work. Hey, its a Grumman, right? :D

Did you catch the part about scheduled service? What rules would the airline be operating under? Part 43 for maintenance? or its charter?
