Emergency landing on main street....

thats a damn narrow "main street"! glad they were OK.

last night i had a dream that i took the B-29 Fifi on a cross country soaring flight. Trying to make it from Midland to Kansas but ended up landing on the street in front of the courthouse in Llano, TX. Thats not even in the right direction btw.

I think that's a 152:dunno:

But still, good job getting it into that "street"

Wow. Good luck trying that in the USA, with all the cables overhead instead of underground..

I haven't seen a 152 with a landing light in the wing like that. Not saying they're not out there!

He put that nicely on the centerline, if there was one. Amazing considering it looks like he clipped a few things on the way down!

Trailing edge of flaps is behind the rear window...

According to the registration it's a N-registered 150: http://www.regosearch.com/aircraft/us/6619F

I am however not so sure if it was indeed such a great thing the pilot did - the city is really small with some surrounding fields. There are also some reports saying that he already had engine trouble since quite a while before he crash landed.
It might be that instead of making an coordinated off airport landing while he had the time to do so, he tried to milk it to the next airport, continuously lost altitude and finally crash landed in the city.
No matter if he did a good job or not - this was definitely no advertisement for private flying here in Germany, where we have a lot of people who would like to see the whole GA fleet grounded.. :(

This is the city: http://maps.google.de/maps?q=stockstadt&hl=de&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&t=h&z=12&vpsrc=0

I'm curious to read what the official report has to say about this incident.

Cheers, Oliver

Hi Oliver,

We have the same problem here...people are convinced that flying is a hobby for spoiled millionaires...

Folks don't have a problem spending twice as much for a ski vacation in a Club Med...that makes perfect sense to them...

I personally think that many are just jealous.

Cheers

Yeah, I can't imagine putting down in a street instead of a field. It's not like that's really hostile terrain there. Oh, and Germans with their cars, bet people got angry...

Another nice little Cessna bites the dust.

What the heck did he do to shear the nose gear off of a 152? Ouch.

I note the fuel is being siphoned from the left tank, for the Cirrus drivers.  Which also probably negates a fuel-starvation cause...

Okay - I just googled the location, I thought that name sounded familiar. I was stationed in Aschaffenberg, and I've been on that very street!

No there is not an abundance of unpopulated, flat terrain in that area on which one can land an airplane. From where he is, it looks like he was trying to avoid a very densely populated area for some fields outside the City, and didn't quite make it. The terrain around the river is VERY nasty with lots of rock terraces and high rise buildings. Outside of town it's mountains dotted with small strips of farmland.

Whoa. The photos in the first article show just how tight that was... whew... amazing that they're alive and only "slightly injured".

Hadn't seen the pic on a big screen at first- look at all the lampposts along the previous block!! Is that what trashed the wings, or did he miss them somehow? I'd like to buy the pilot a drink- and a new pair of boxers. :D

I'd say he hit the lamp post, but the translations from German say he missed everything except a satellite dish or antenna on a roof that he "touched". Wow.
