"Greetings Everyone,
Today, at about 11:00hrs, I received a phone call from John McKelzey, FAA- N.E. Regional ATC to inform us that his office received a report from a jet aircraft that departed Augusta and while traveling at nearly 13,000 feet over Wiscasset encountered a “drone”.
The “drone” was orange in color and approximately 2 ft. in diameter.
A few minutes later, I received a similar call from Pam, Lincoln County Communications – Dispatch, informing me that she also had received a similar call from Boston ATC.
This is of a very serious nature as all of you can imagine if a “harmless drone” gets sucked into a jet engine, the results will be catastrophic.
Please be aware of your environment and take extra precautions while operating/flying your aircraft. Report any type of drones to your local law enforcement agency as soon as you are able to make contact and always give us a call over the air to the nearest FBO and airport. Please make note of your location if you can, it will narrow the area of incident.
At the Wiscasset Airport we have a G.A.R.D. system that records all communications within range and on our frequency of 122.800.
Please share this incident with all your pilot friends.
