So our 135 operation is trying to get the FSDO give the green light on changing our opspecs to include using our IPADs for approach plates and charts. For now, we, of course, must carry current paper forms of appropriate maps and plates. We carry our IPADs with us and primarily use them, as they are much easier to work with, although we carry all forms in paper as well.

I would assume there would be a requirement for a secondary device, such as an Iphone. Considering I am on T-Mobile, I can only get an Android device, unless I choose to change providers. Are there any apps for an Android Smartphone that will allow me to display approach plates?

Currently, I use a basic talk and text phone with no bells and whistles, and I really hate the smartphones with a passion.

You might want to read AC's 91-78 and 120-76B -- they'll tell you everything you need to know about getting this done.

If you still have questions, your POI at the FSDO (who's the one who will be approving this) will have the answers you need.

That wasn't the question. The POI will give me what I need for those questions. The question was about using an Android as compared to and Iphone.

You missed my point. Your original post assumes things that aren't part of the relevant AC's. Read the AC's and work with your POI to figure what you need before you go spending a lot of effort trying to get what you either don't need or won't be approved.

We were one of the first 135 operators approved for the Ipad. I think at first it was the Ipad plus paper backup, but we are now approved for two ipads. We use Foreflight for our chart provider.
