i'd guess the engine is about 190 and the pipes are a little hotter

oh i thought you were asking for the engine temps but you are asking what type of engine it is.

It's a V8

V8 of some kind.
Engine: Fairly hot.
Exhaust: Vaporize your finger prints off hot.

My guess is a big block Chevy. Distributor at the back of the engine, sump has its hump in the back, it's pushrod, and the exhaust ports are evenly spaced. I can't tell if the intake ports are siamesed or not since the intake manifold isn't clearly visible in the picture.

As to the EGT, really hot. I'm going to guess around 2000F or higher. When we used to lean to 1750 TIT and turn the lights out it was about that bright, and the lights are on.

V8...Or course.. I'd say 770 C or 1420 F just by the color of the pipes.

Ted is one smart motorhead........

1-It is a Big Block Chevy.
.

2- This pic was taken about 25 minutes into a 1/2 hour endurance dyno run.

3- The exhaust temps are less then both guesses so far.

More info to follow.

Ben.

I'd say cylinders #3 and #5 are running a littler richer than the other two.

You are on the right track to figuring out what kind of intake manifold it has.... Congrats on the observation..:yesnod::yesnod::idea:
