Everything Offends Me
I am going for a longun' on Sunday, and looking for any suggestions for a good airport hamburger near New Mexico: anywhere in Eastern Arizona, Western Texas, Southern Colorado or pretty much anywhere in New Mexico.

I know about Las Cruces, and that may be where I go...but, any other advice?

Used to be a place at Double Eagle II near Albuquerque. Don't know if it's still there. The place at Belen has been closed the last several times I stopped there. I think there used to be a place at Farmington, but it's been a long time since I was there. Forget Deming, nothing there.

Nick, I'll be into Farmington next month. Probably coming in the afternoon/evening of the 16th. That is a Monday however.

I'm based at Double Eagle tho...the restaurant there is awesome, but I want to go somewhere else...

Hmmm...

Is there a restaurant at Havasu? It's a bit longer than I had planned, but definitely not out of the question

Not sure what time I'll be getting in. Leaving Tahoe in the morning and stopping in Bryce on the way there.

Wow....I might take you up on that one. I'm taking my friend with me (the heavyset one from the other post), so I'll have to see if he'd be interested first, but it sounds kinda cool.

Don't I know it!! But why ruin what nature gave ya by hiding it with a bikini??!! Heck, let the hooters fly free!!

The FBO at Amarillo gives a 15% discount (with fuel purchase) to the resturant right next door. The resturant is AWESOME. I had a Chef Salad that must have weighed 10 pounds. My pax #1 had a burger that weighed as much. My pax #2 had a huge, thick, slice of pie with a huge-scoop of vanilla ice cream.

The bill was reasonable and the food was delicious.

Finally, a 3 hour student could land there in a 30 knot crosswind. Their runway is HUGE.

Thanks for the visual guys.

So similar, it's uncanny!!

Running the numbers, it appears that KIFP is closer to 4 hours using tomorrow's winds...

I know I'd be down for it, waiting for the response from my friend. Oh, and I'd have to stop for fuel probably too.

I'll definitely take you up on it another weekend, but it looks like Amarillo it is for Sunday.

Re: Northern NM restaurants

It's just a short hop from Double Eagle, but you can't beat the green chile cheeseburger at Santa Fe. Hundreds of fine restaurants in that town, and when I visit I get excited about that first lunch at the airport.

The restaurant at Farmington (home base for me) has been closed since 2003. It was a good Mexican place, but moved out to the casino when air traffic counts plummeted after Sept 11. The airport authority is actively courting restauranteurs, but nothing in the works yet.

At Aztec you can walk down the hill to Olivers, which is a decent inexpensive meat-and-potatoes type place. Probably about a half mile. Open every day all three meals. The walk back up the hill will work off your meal.

If you want to meet the nicest people in aviation, pay a visit to Raton. While no restaurant per se, Fern operates a grill in the FBO and will whip up some burgers or sandwiches for you. Visitors are customarily greeted with delicious fresh-bakes cookies too.

Used to be a place at Winslow, AZ.

During our recent training at SAF, we ate two nights at a place called the Blue Corn Cafe and Brewery. Emphasis on the micro brew of course. Not right at the airport, probably about 3 miles away, on the strip. It was right behind our hotel. Excellent SW food and beer. I am told it may be something of a chain, but it was good for us. Million$air or SAF Jet Center would probably "give" you a crew car to get there.

Yeah, when I got stuck overnight at Santa Fe due to weather, I went, upon SF Jet Center's advice, to the Blue Corn Cafe. They let us use a courtesy car (which I still can't believe exists). Its a good place. Unfortunately, I'm looking for a further destination, hopefully at least cross-country distance. SAF is about 49nm with a plotter, or 45nm via AirNav.

Going in a whole different direction, do they still have Wienerschnitzel's in Albuquerque?

America's Most Wanted Hot Dog!! Yeah, and we now have a 24 hour one too. Very nice for night owls such as myself!

Hmm....the phone number for the restaurant at Amarillo is disconnected. I'm thinking I might give another go at the 72oz. steak at the Big Texan. I did it when I was 16 in 57 minutes or so, but I don't think I can do it again.

2 of the three times I stopped at Winslow there were folks there. In fact, there was an on-field cafe, I think named "The Last Resort". The name stuck. Don't know if it's still there.

Ground transport is a problem, though.

If you count COS as being "southern" CO there's this place:

http://www.solosrestaurant.com/index.html

It's within walking distance on a nice day or they'll take you there if the car's not available.
