I like the idea of joining an EAA chapter, but I've been to one that was entirely builders; I had very little in common, and it didn't interest me.

Are there EAA chapters that are more "diverse" in your experience?

My local EAA chapter is almost entirely non builders.

My first chapter meeting is Monday night... it will be interesting to see what the makeup is. I'm hoping for more builders, actually.

690 (Lawrenceville, GA) has a good mix of both builders and non-builders. At the Young Eagle events, IIRC I've only seen one experimental doing flights. I'd say shop around.

My first one is two weeks from now.
I'm curious to see what happens

Ours has a lot of people who aren't builders. There's a good portion of them who are Vintage Aircraft guys like me and a lot just are spam can jocks who like the social / service aspects of it (young eagles, etc...).

You can be an NRA member even if you've never owned a gun.
