I just received a new Dyna Vibe dynamic prop balance and in reading the instruction book a very perplexing statement says:

"If the accelerometer cable is pointing away from the center of the hub, then the angle reported by the Dyna Vibe is the HEAVY spot (to remove weight, or 180-degrees from where to add weight.) If you flip it (the cable) so the accelerometer cable is pointing toward the bub, the the reading will indicate the light spot (where to ADD weight.)"

Question: How can the orientation of the cable, not the accelerometer, influence this?

That statement really doesn't make sense. The location of the cable affects nothing. I would call the Dyna Vibe guys and ask. They are very helpful.

Congrats on getting into prop balancing yourself! Its really quite interesting and can be profitable. ;)

Are they really worried about cable orientation or are they worried about accel orientation and the cable exit location is the simple way to describe that?

Did you buy one of these? Would you consider renting the unit?

I'd have to see the accelerometer to be certain but I suspect that it IS the orientation of the sensor that affects the polarity of the reading and the cable orientation is simply one way to identify the sensor orientation.

^^ This, except I might perhaps call it an acceleration vector rather at than polarity.

The cable direction is helping you orient the accelerometer so that the software output makes sense.
