Hangar at Dulles this weekend after 32" of snow. I pity the guy who had to call the insurance company.

Biz jets doing wheelies. Who would have thunk it. :D

Wasn't someone in another thread looking for pictures of airplanes where weight on the tail makes the nose come up?

wow, that is bad.

I'm not so sure about the snow collapsing the roof. Did you see all those alien beings walking around in picture #4? :)

John

Ouch! That's going to get expensive in a hurry...

Flying out of IAD yesterday the taxiways & ramp areas were rough with warshboard ice. Surprised the aircraft didn't lose gear....

Where's a taildragger when you need it?

Wow, not good. Spot on about not wanting to be the insurance provider. Assuming the hangar owner has different coverage than the aircraft owner, who pays? Does the aircraft owner get paid by their insurance company, who then subrugates against the hangar owner's coverage?

FS:

Various gulfstreams, slight hangar-rash :yikes:

This is going to keep lots of lawyers busy for a long time. In the end, they'll blame it on a dead guy.

Yes, I noticed this thread. Not quite what I had in mind, but it does sort of fit my original question! :)

I wonder how much snow that structure was rated for?
From the looks of it, it would have been wise to try to get some of the snow off it somehow while the snow was still coming down.

Quite obviously the hangar was rated for just a bit less snow than had accumulated.

The obvious defect is the supports ran the wrong direction. The design required a major support to run parallel to the doors which put the design into a "kingpost" (actually four kingposts) requirement. A very bad idea on many levels. I hope codes were followed. I hope there were no "negotiations" included in the approval process.

Broken welds in beams?
