Disney is launching 300 lighted drones in a new holiday show.

I wonder how the FAA regs apply? Each drone is, I'm sure, below the 50 lb threshold, but when you have hundreds of the things operating from a master coordinating computer program, is the weight of each drone the correct way to regulate the swarm?

It doesn't take much for technology to outpace bureaucracy, and I suspect the FAA will continue to fall further and further behind.

Still, the FAA has already signaled its willingness to work with companies like Intel, recently began offering waivers from certain drone restrictions (including, crucially for Starbright Holidays, the ability to fly drones at night). It helps, too, that Intel CEO Brian Krzanich chairs the FAA’s Drone Advisory Committee.

Can't wait to see this show!
