Don't text and fly, lest thee crash.

Yeah, and don't run out of fuel either

Although he shouldn't have been texting.

He took off knowing his fuel was low and he would be cutting it close, then he took off again knowing it was going to be tight. Then he attempted to land at a place barely short of his destination that has cheap fuel. They ran out before they got there.

Yeah, I should be fair and say that texting was a "factor"; he was having a pretty intensive text conversation with a lady friend in the hours leading up to the crash; texted while in flight, yes, but not during the final minutes before the crash.

Not sure how you txt and fly a helicopter without an autopilot (which I'm pretty sure an air ambulance would)...expect a FAR update soon.

It's not unusual to find a friction lock on the collective in most helos. That would have made it possible even without a autopilot. Without that little helper tuning radios and holding the coffee would be impossible. :D

Driving is becoming more dangerous by the day. In the past, you could figure the 40 mph car in the middle lane on the 70 mph road was a blue-hair. Now it's some moron involved in a text conversation.

The giveaway when you get close is that they aren't looking straight ahead but down and to the right. Going to stop by the air-horn shop soon. Maybe one of them will post about texting and crapping their britches at the same time.

Nothing new under the sun. I used to commute the same way everyday to Las Colinas. This was before texting. I would see the same lady every morning in the fast lane on 114 at 45 MPH reading a hard cover book propped up on the steering wheel and eating a breakfast burrito. Traffic would be laying on the horns, but she was indifferent.
