I already have a restricted radiotelephone permit from the FCC for myself. But my CFI says my airplane needs one, too, or I’ll have a problem when landing in the Bahamas. Does anyone know where/how I get a radio license for my Cessna 162? Thanks in advance!

Your CFI is correct. You need both your OPERATOR license and the aircraft STATION license. These are waived for domestic VHF use only. You need them both for international flights (or HF).

That being said, I've never seen a non-US official who gave a hoot about either one. You do it with the FCC ULS. Information here: https://www.fcc.gov/wireless/bureau...ion/aviation-radio-services/aircraft-stations. It costs $170.

You’re braver than I am.

Appreciate the confirmation and info! I'll go ahead and buy the aircraft station license just to be on the safe side!
