We can thank the EEOC for what we have now.

NO, you can thank the seniority system for what we have now, the oldest fleet of FAs in the world with the worst attitudes and service that I ever imagined possible in a service sector industry. I also recall when pilots could actually fly.

The real fault of course is the management competing for who can make the least money and still fly and consumers shopping bottom price. Capitalism will always lead to crapitalism.

Fixed that for ya...

No, actually not, Unionism was brought about to combat the ills that Capitalism brought about. Perhaps some reading for you from the time that brought unions to bear. Start with "Two Years Before the Mast" and "The Jungle", these were the two books that started everything in this country with regards to federal regulation of industry. There's a lot more reading to be done, especially with regards to the automotive and steel industries.

What you will find is that capitalism, as with any other economic 'ism' is going to be screwed by greed. There is no system that cannot be screwed up by people which is why we always have to have counter forces and government. If mankind wasn't screwed up, we wouldn't have had to come up with government at all, we'd all just cooperate.

It's time to quit assessing blame on "them" and whatever 'others' you want to dream up. We have all this stuff in place because we are a bunch of crooks who would rob each other blind and kill each other over what we consider transgressions against us. Until we quit being f-k ups, we will continue to live as f-k ups, nobody else can do it.

Remember when a pilot could get a flight attendant pregnant, but not the other way around? :D

Younger women have many more career choices now. :D

I never understood why someone would want to be a flight attendant anyway.

So life at sea in 1835 could be pretty crappy. At that time it was often pretty crappy on land too.

"The Jungle" is a novel.

Yes, but it tells a true-enough story. Henning would prefer to believe himself to be the only educated lout amongst the lot of us. Methinks he might be surprised if he only knew a portion of what he professes.

Unions were indeed brought about by need, at the time of their creation it was a legitimate need. That need no longer exists, and the unions still do, sucking at the teat of production.

Twenty years ago I was approached by a group of my employees that wanted to unionize my labor force in the business I owned. I told them they were free to do as they wished, but I would cut the pay of every union member by 30% to make up for the loss of production they would cost me with their foolishness. My shop was not unionized.

Yeahbut that looks like it was taken on a business jet.

I was alluding to the appearance of the flight attendants and I couldn't find a suitable stock Cathay Pacific photo that would do justice. Well, I did find one photo, probably not sanctioned by Cathay Pacific, but I couldn't possibly post it here.

Those are purported to be Thai Airlines stewardesses. They could well be on a Thai Airlines corporate biz jet.

I don't really see the problem with current F/A's...Most of them are polite with passengers and do their jobs effieciently all while being screwed by their employers...I've never had an F/A be outright rude to me like so many seem to complain about. Then again, I don't misbehave in public like so many seem to :/.

I dont understand why someone would want to be a FA longer than maybe 2-3 years. Just like waiting tables or beign a ski-instructor. There are jobs and then there are careers, I dont get why anyone would make FA a career.

I don't understand it either, and I've got a sister who is an FA out of Dallas, married to a pilot. Go figure.

Eye candy is great, but as with flight crews, I like to see at least one older, seasoned crew member when I am a cigar-tube pax.
I recall flying Sunjet a few times in a row between Newark and Orlando; always wound up with the same crew. The chief FA was everything a FA should be: friendly, competent, patient, but with a zero-tolerance policy towards rudeness and inefficiency, and just salty enough to keep everybody smiling. And certainly not unattractive for her age, not that that matters much to me. Definitely more functional than decorative, and her younger charges seemed to like her as much as they feared her. :D

In the long run, I am happiest on an airline flight if there is a Pretty Young Thing sitting next to me...:D

Ugh. Quantas has three classes of flight attendants. 1) Old, seasoned, senior men. 2) Young gay guys. 3) Old, seasoned, senior women.

If you are lucky, you get the gay guy because at least he will take care of you. The old, crotchety men are just downright mean and cranky. The women, not so much but there are relatively few of them.

Plus the gay guy can give you advice on your accessories :-) .....

Figures I would look at the airplane and not the women.

By the way, and not really related to this thread specifically, I've been meaning to ask you for some time.

Have you taken on a new mission just to bust my balls?

No, I'm an equal-opportunity buster. :D

Back in my youth, my favorite watering hole was the bar in the old upstairs Brigantine restaurant in Point Loma. It was also the favorite watering hole for PSA pilots. The stews would also bless all in attendance with their presence. It was one fun place to go for a few drinks. Even got lucky a few times.

So what's the difference between a Sr. Flight Attendant and a bag of trash?

The bag of trash gets taken out twice a week.

Airline pilot joke (obviously).

You think your so smart, but ain't it "I thinks" ?

(ps - the "your" was intentional, too :) )

ah, more than a few happy hours at the Brig when I worked for CSC. Our office was right next to Sports Arena, and my customer was down on the Point at FCDSSA.
