Dodge Announces 1/2 ton Diesel Pickup

Quite apparently you haven't been around a modern common rail diesel. Go down to your local BMW dealership have them start up a gasoline car and a diesel car - you won't be able to tell the difference unless you have your nose right in the tailpipe.

The Asia emissions laws aren't anywhere near the level of the US or Europe, hence the discrepancy. However, as I said already, I found France and Belgium highway driving all day will give me a sore throat compared to US driving. For some reason I can't figure out, the Europeans also put their diesel truck exhaust close to the ground vs. ours higher up in the air.

we do the same here for the same reasons. In the US it's referred to as a "california exhaust". Roadside detection, usually IR absorption, is placed at truck roof-height to measure excessive smoke. Truckers respond by putting the exhaust down low where the smoke can't be separated from the road dust from a detection perspective.

Interesting. Since I don't go to California, I haven't seen that. Very annoying since it places all the smoke right at the level where you breathe it in.

California. Sigh.
