Has anyone ever made a tow bar for a tricycle gear aircraft?
any ideas and photos help thanks

IMO - it's less than filling the tanks. Buy one.

You'll save in the long run.

No disrespect towards your Grand Pa, but if you make one, it will probably be heavier, not work as well, break sooner and cost nearly as much as a good store-bought one.
