Distracted Flying?

We all have seen drivers texting, tweeting, Facebooking, emailing, etc. What about flying? Do you text while flying?

Please don't be that guy! Drive the car or fly the plane. ;)

I don't text while driving, but I do text while flying. Only in cruise when I have signal. Helps a lot with coordination on the ground. Same thing as reading a book or magazine, sleeping, whatever else IMO.

I text while driving all the time.

Of course, when my phone links to the bluetooth sound system, it switches to a mode where it announces texts and reads them to me, then I can dictate a text to it, and it sends it. Phone never comes off the belt.

Windows Phone. Good stuff.

I hate to say it, but....

Yeah I do talk on the radio while flying. And sometimes I even write things and look at maps.

In most areas of the southwest, texting or talking on a cell phone in flight isn't an option

I figure with all the E6B work I had to do in flight, I was trained to text while flying.

I would imagine he wasn't much help with the traffic scan.

It was EdFred and I'm sure he was scanning out of the corner of his eye. I forget if we had FF or not. We were on a three hour cross country flight to a POA fly-in.

I think the iPad was just a pretend way of making me feel like I was flying a complex plane all by myself. I had gotten my cert only a day or two before and technically that was my first flight as a private pilot and the most expensive, fanciest plane I'd been in to date.
