Dish found guilty of not complying to Do-not-call list

too bad they don't also fine the scum who make/sell the robo-dial equipment

Good enough reason to cancel service right there...seriously, I've been looking for an excuse.

Looks like it's the streaming life for me...

Want your own robo-dialer?

http://www.twilio.com

You just have to write your own code, but it will call all the numbers you can throw at it!

I use it for a non-profit I work with, we distribute information with it. Works great...I can pick who to send it to (including "Everyone"), and hit a button and phones are ringing all over the state.

Yup, we get WAY more political wacko calls than telemarketing calls. Surprised? Nope. Politicians are greedy a**holes who do not have to adhere to laws ... and they know it.

Political calls are specifically exempt from the Do Not Call list. It's a first-amendment thing.

a stupid application of the 1st. Kind of like forcing people to tune into a particular station ...

Political speech is the most protected class of speech recognized under US law.

It's the entire purpose of the 1st Amendment. All laws that restrict it are presumptively invalid on their face, only a very rare one will withstand scrutiny.

50 millions calls. So, what took the FCC so long to do this? How many years is 50m calls?

And they do it by violating the fourth-amendment thing

While providing political opinion/speech is a 1st amendment right,
forcing others to listen is a 4th amendment violation

How so?

How is phoning you somehow making a search and/or seizure?

Important to follow through to the logical conclusion.

1. It will never go through trial to judgment.

2. The settlement will enrich the fedguv, which will respond by hiring thousands of new emp. The citizens will never see a penny of the settlement money, may even get a discount if they sign up for Dish service(some punishment there).

3. Existing Dish customers will see an increase in their bills.

And of course:

4. The calls we resume in a few months.

The calls won't stop until you people stop answering your phones...

Does anyone besides my parents still have a home phone? :dunno:

Given the number of calls I get I doubt anyone is paying any attention at all to that particular statute.

We have a free VoIP line with unlimited calling, nothing wrong with that. Especially with how long the wife usually yaps with her mother. :D

We do not answer calls from numbers we do not recognize. Telemarketers get the gist when they hear the answering machine message and they hang up. However, politician a**holes start yapping loud, proud and long and leave an annoying message.

Blocking political campaign numbers is easy however it does not solve the problem entirely because the a**holes found a loophole and are now using regular landlines of their supporters to connect their robo-dialer and annoy the crap out of tax paying citizen. So there is no winning with them.

I wish you could put the "I voted" sticker on your phone line so that they stop bugging those who are not their target audience anymore. :)

If you have a landline - and if your company supports it . . .

www.nomorobo.com

The phone rings once. . . . and it gets sent to telemarketing jail. . . . all you need to do is wait for the phone to ring 2x - its a call thats not on the robo list . . . it even picks up the caller id spoofing.

If you receive a robo call the first thing you should do is ask them for their credit card number, name on the card, and the CVVC code and inform them the call will cost them $299. This shuts them up real fast.
