This is a dumb one for y'all. I had never thought about this before, but I'm trying to figure out the difference between save and apply.

It appears that the only difference (in most cases), is that Save saves the settings and closes the window, while Apply simply saves the settings and leaves the window open.

Is that really the only difference?

IME - yes

keep in mind im not much of a computer nerd.

when I have the option of Save or Apply, yes, that is how I would interpret what they are going to do.

In most UI's I would say that is the case. It's pretty much standard practice.

Although I have seen some open source applications with GUI's to where Save will simply save the settings. Apply will save them and restart the applicable services. This is generally pretty rare.
