Hello,

Looking at the FAA meds database, it looks like Diamox is allowed "under special issuance".

I have used Diamox in the past (prescribed by a doctor) a few days in advance of and while climbing a 14K+ mountain. This happened before I applied for and received a Class 3 medical a few years ago (I disclosed the Diamox use on the medical application). I have since switched to BasicMed and am considering climbing a 14k+ peak again and would like to be able to use Diamox for that climb.

Firstly, if I get a doctor's prescription and it is specifically for the purpose of a particular climb, does that make it ok if I don't fly close to the trip (say a week on both sides)?

Secondly, if I want to use my plane to get to the mountain and start taking Diamox for 2-3 days after we get there and then fly back a few days later, would that be ok?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Vas
