I've got an appointment with an ENT about my deviated septum. It's been giving me nosebleeds and sinus congestion for years, and I'm finally going in to look at getting it surgically corrected.

Is there anything in particular I should ask my doctor that would affect my ability to fly? I read that the recovery time is more or less 2 weeks, should I be good to go after that?

I'm assuming I should get a letter from him at the follow up appointment saying there are no adverse effects.

Thanks!

The surgery was a non-event for me. Although everyone recovers at a different rate, two weeks grounded is about right.

Todd, if anything it will IMPROVE your ability to fly....just wait until you encounter FL 200 with sinus congestion....it is no big deal to FAA, either. :)

Mine was a simple out patient procedure. Was back to work in about 3 days (mostly from sheer boredom), but 2 weeks would be playing safe and sounds good.

A number of years ago, I had a deviated septum repaired, turbinate reduction and sinus polyps removed on a Friday, packing removed on a Monday, couple of weeks later I was flying (the couple of weeks was more a factor of workload, not physical condition)

Haven't had a sinus infection since then. Prior to the surgery, I was on antibiotics for them more than I was off, it seemed.
