Detroit Red Bull Air Races

Flying 20 above the Detroit River at 230 mph closer to the action than I have ever before, Red Bull Air race is quite a show. Talented pilots and extremely fast aircraft make for great action. Kirby Chambliss takes first in the one day event. Saturday called on 35 knot winds that blew the air gates off their moorings.

Something very different including dinner!

I think your pictures are a lot better than mine. I did get some video that I'll need to process. We had to leave after the semifinals, so it's good to hear that Kirby won. What were the times for the final run?

Wow! Off a bit from some of the times in the semi-finals, but I still don't know where they shaved those extra seconds to begin with! I'll definitely be interested in that video!

They were great! According to the site, there were 0.75M people there, and they claimed 400M viewers worldwide! Heck, if we could only turn a small fraction of those into aviators, or at least GA supporters! WOW!

Dang! Much better then mine, but then all I saw was a bunch of nice people and some boats chaseing airgates UPSTREAM! It's really quite windy when the waves are going up stream agianst a 7kt current.

Thanks for the help. You would have appreciated the 2 Bolkow 105's. Blue flew the course to show spectators a pilots perspective on the big screens. The Red Bull 105 flew aerobatics, loops, rolls, tail slide, & split S.

That Red Bull 105 did things that I literally thought were impossible to do with a helicopter!
