.... And register it in your name with your contact info.

I can't believe they don't sync with the FAA when planes are degresitered. :dunno:

My wife got "the call" Saturday. It was from the Coast Guard saying my ELT had gone off somewhere in California. While I told her I was going flying she didn't think it was to Santa Rosa! She about had a heart attack! How was she going to spend all that insurance money!

I sold my RV-12 to a guy out there and didn't think to deregister the ELT from my name and have him re-register it. Heck, I don't remember registering it in the first place!

Anyway, save your self and your family a heart attack and deregister the 406 ELT is you sell a plane with one. If you buy a plane with one, make sure it is in your name with your contacts. It could save your life.

The problem is you have to have the ID to deregister it. I don't have any of that info.

My condolences to you wife. You were a good pilot. You will be missed!

How much of an insurance policy did you have? And do you think she's over the grief yet? If so, is the RV10 OK? Could you send some pictures of it?

On a serious note. Coast Guard should have been a dead giveaway. You wouldn't have any reason to do an OB over the ocean…. Well, unless there was a carrier out there.

My wife is still grieving because she couldn't collect the insurance!

So do you know what happened to the RV-12? I presume from the light tone of the posts its ELT was triggered by something other than an accident?

We had a guy here a couple years back who's wife gave him a PLB thinking it was an avalanche beacon. Obviously he didn't register it. He'd turn it on dutifully any time he was out in the woods skiing alone and turn it off just about the time the SAR folks could get to his mountain town. Went on for months one winter. He finally left it on in the trunk of his car and the SAR folks and a Sheriff knocked on his door at midnight. LOL

I should have finished the story. He accidently set it off in the hangar cleaning the panel.

The flip side is to make sure you register it when you buy one, right?
