It's helpful to be able to decode a METAR on your own. Especially when it tries to convert the day and time to wind speed and direction!!

What app is this so I can make fun of it?

The wind is the one with kt at the end...come on it's not hard. Must be a product of vibe coding

Must be global warming - its very strange to have fog and low viz with that much wind.

It's usually a decent app with good information. I keep a widget on my home screen with the information available at a glance. This morning I did a double-take, then started trying to figure out what happened. It didn't take very long to spot the day and time (which ends with Z) being "converted" to wind direction and speed (which as you pointed out, *should* end with KT). That would make a heck of an approach to Runway 5 at Greensboro!

What's wrong with Foreflight or Garmin Pilot? Seems you are still living in the 20th century if you are having to decode METAR's.

Nothing wrong with whatever your preferred app. I was just pointing out the humor in the "decoded" version being a decoded day and time translated into wind direction and speed. I learned to decode METARs in my head years ago, but I use the widget on my phone's home screen for a quick glance at the weather conditions at KGSO (or whatever airport I'm near when traveling). I just though it was funny that the computer didn't flinch at spitting out a wind speed of 212 kts in the "decoded" version.

Decoding METAR apps phooey... back in my day we had to walk 8 miles both ways uphill in a blinding snowstorm to the METAR store to get the raw data and then have to put it together with our cold, almost dead, hands..

Kidding aside, I do still do this even though my Garmin Pilot and many of the weather sites do this. And do find myself from time to time getting stumped with an abbreviation.. I keep this guy, or gal depending from your point of view, handy...

I always loved landing in windy conditions. I mean WINDY. The worse the winds, the better for me.

But 212k winds may be a tad too much for me...

I am working on a simple web app now. It doesn’t decode the Metar, but it color codes it for VFR in IFR. Also gives you any airport delays.

Sorry, should have read your original post more closely
