I am still confused by your suggestion that the Captain is a phony, so managed to somehow be a phony and yet actually be in the story he claimed to be party to. Since you are a stickler for this sort of thing, you might want to make clear what position you've settled on: the Captain is a phony so the story is fictional, or the Captain is legit and the story is demeaning to its subject.
There's no conflict. Without question, the post initiating the thread in question, made by "captain" was demeaning and unprofessional, and "captain" himself has stated that he made the thread with that intent. In fact, he stated that was the purpose of the thread (and to be "compelling"). It was his point. There is no question, then, that "captain" intended to be childish, demeaning, and to put down, regardless of the source of his story.
That the "captain" repeatedly used terminology which was uniquely wrong to that particular story was interesting, as was his reaction when called on it. Even when presented with a simple discrepancy, he said he didn't want to know, and didn't care. He failed to defend it, after it was brought up multiple times, and finally threw a fit (hence, this thread).
This seems to be a routine thing with him, as we've seen in other threads.
As for the issue which others have raised here with contractors being mercenaries, I take umbrage on that subject. A soldier is paid for his or her service, regardless of motive, and wears the same uniform. One soldier might be court-ordered into the military while another might be fighting for God and Country. Yet another might be trying to prove manhood, and another to please his or her father. Still another may be after the GI Bill's educational benefits, the flight training, or the money. Yet, each is a soldier. A contractor, doing the same missions and flying on behalf of the same government, in the same location, is no more a mercenary than the soldier, and every bit as honorable. Whether the contractor is paid more is irrelevant. The big difference is that the contractor doesn't get a flag on his or her coffin.
