Has anyone used de-icing spray that's used on cars, for your airplane? I've never really thought of it until today... Seems like a good idea! But I wouldn't use it on the fiberglass windshield :hairraise:.

Your thoughts?

Fiberglass windshield? It depends on what kind of spray it is, some of them are quite corrosive.

I have... they really work best if you apply it before it snows/ices.. I would mist the wings and control surfaces when I left the plane. When I returned, I could easily push the snow off just with my arm (typically 2-4" of snow).

I never noticed anything harmful about them, either on the wing/control surfaces or the windshield.

I'm in MO and normally have a heated hangar, so I only do it a few times a year, but I use windshield washer fluid rated to -20*F. I put it in an old spray bottle that does both mist and larger droplets. It's always worked great for light accumulations, such as a heavy frost and left-over snow after brushing the bulk of it off.
