DC Notam

Yeah -- but not worth poop unless you are within visual line of sight of the light source, so it's worthless on days like today or if you're above an undercast.

Just remember -- good flight planning, and good basic DR nav backed up by radios and pilotage.

That it is ineffective in inclement weather should prove to us pilots the only reason for the system was to give the peeps a warm and fuzzy feeling that YOUR GOVERNMENT was doing something.
What a waste of money!!!
A good thing the weather stinks... proves what a valuable system it truly is. 2 incursions in 3 days since it was activated. Proven its worth.

THIS SIGNAL MAY BE DIRECTED AT SPECIFIC AIRCRAFT SUSPECTED OF MAKING UNAUTHORIZED ENTRY INTO THE ADIZ/FRZ AND ARE ON A HEADING OR FLIGHT PATH THAT MAY BE INTERPRETED AS A THREAT OR THAT OPERATE CONTRARY TO THE OPERATING RULES FOR THE ADIZ/FRZ.

So what we have here is a radar speed trap on the road that only has a seriously dirty marginally readable speed limit sign and you don't know you're in trouble until after you're busted?

I don't know much about it but IMO you need to use it BEFORE the plane penetrates the ADIZ if the idea is to keep unauthorized planes out of the area. If the projected flight path is going to take the plane into the ADIZ in the next 30-60 seconds. Something like that anyway...

Learn to navigate. Be very cautious around DC. Have an abort plan for when you're not absolutely certain of your position and/or authorization. Know your intercept procedures for if you do screw it up. Know what you're doing or don't go near there.

My two marbles worth...

This is a far cry from that -- it's a last ditch effort to warn off folks who can't read a map or dial 1-800-WX-BRIEF and haven't read an aviation publication in the last four years. If there's a pilot in this country who doesn't know about the ADIZ yet, that person deserves the same letter that Sheaffer got from 800 Independence Ave. The laser lights are just for those who got so totally lost they don't have the first clue where they are, but who, if they see the lights, will figure it out and leave the area ASAP.
