What's different about the iPad version that makes it better than Android or the website version?
Bigger screen is all. It's the same code as the iPhone version. Android is a separate codebase and slightly different UI but it's identical functionality, and the website has a superset of both functionality. The idea is that the iOS/Android apps are optimized around remote and intermittent access to the system, touch, GPS access, and "in or at the aircraft" scenarios, but the website is more optimized for a keyboard, a larger screen, assumed connectivity, and deeper interaction (e.g., download to or import from a spreadsheet, analysis graphs, etc.) The website is actually the heart of the system - the iOS and Android apps just interact with it. ALL data is stored on the website, the apps are simply portals.

Whatever EFB you're using (I use ForeFlight) will probably have a built in Logbook, so you're covered there. And I see people have mentioned most of the external (stand-alone) Logbooks.

Whatever one you pick, BE SURE it has a simple and FREE way to export your data to an Excel spreadsheet, probably in a .CSV format, but that really doesn't matter. If it is in some form that Excel can read, you can save it as anything you want. This will allow you to make your own Backups, separate from whatever Logbook service you're using. I really doubt ForeFlight will suddenly turn off their servers, but you never know. More likely there could be some attack on their servers.

So simple to use and the ability to backup/expert to a common file type is what you're looking for.
Couldn't agree more - your data is YOUR data. You don't want it to disappear if the company goes under, or if you stop paying a subscription fee, or ...
