Installed a dash cam in one of my vehicles today that has forward & rear facing cameras. It seems to work well, wasn't expensive, and the install & set-up were easy.

Years ago, when I was doing the initial flight testing on my plane I used an in cockpit camera to record readouts on all the instrumentation. It was helpful to debrief flights later. I don't have a camera in the plane anymore but have been considering maybe adding a dash cam type of set up to record the flight and instrumentation. With a 128GB micro SB card it will record ~12 hours before overwriting what's been captured. If nothing of note is caught then just let it roll on. Here's what I'm using in the vehicle:

I realize that a camera onboard the plane would be gathering evidence that can work for you as well as against you. Anyone else use an onboard camera?

Thoughts either way appreciated ...

I use an Insta360 Ace Pro hanging from the ceiling between the two front seats facing forward. The field of view captures the G1000 NXi panels, my controls and a gorgeous view out the front windshield. All headset audio is also captured.

I record everything from engine start to engine shut off and save all the files to an external hard drive. I do this for maintenance and training purposes. There were times when I had an abnormality and went back to previous videos to help troubleshoot the problem.

I do, mostly for postflight notes and analysis and audio capture. The video is (mostly) correlated with data logging from several sources. I rarely share video and I post even less in the open. As far as gathering evidence, I would rather conclusions be reached based on tangible data than speculation, so even if I <foul> up, I hope it provides some answers.

GoPro on the ceiling for me. Turn of stabilization so you can zoom into instruments when needed. Combined with G5 logs and flySto.net a fairly complete picture of each flight.
