Daley leases Midway!

Too bad we can't lease the mayor's office!

:goofy: Outsource him to a consulting firm?

Whassa matta, Barry, you don't think Duh Mare is capable of bamboozling dose financial guyz?

I wonder how much dollar flow for his pals the lessor had to offer.

It's old hat for him. He had no problem bulldozing public property. He might as well sell it.

Wait'll Blago leases out the Illinois Lottery.

The whole concept is nutty. Anyone who thinks a 99 year lease isn't a sale - well, I have some nice mortgage backed securities for you.

Selling capital assets to meet current account deficits is burning the furniture to keep the house warm! It just hastens the downward spiral.

YeeHAW, let's soak the traveler to pay for infrastructure used by citizens of Chicago! A painless way for elected officials to raise money.

If the gate fees go too high, look for Southwest to find an alternative - like Gary.

It isn't the gate fees necessarily, It'll be a toll gate everywhere for the passengers. I can sneak in by CTA but look for a creative way to charge for that.

Barry, it is all marketing. It is pretty well known in the Infrastructure Investment industry that voters will react very negatively if the pols sell an asset.... but since the average voter doesn't understand a 99 year lease, it is OK to lease the asset. QDED.

Bill, What makes you think any of the money will go to infrastructure (eccept by "the books")? There's a huge political machine to feed first.....what with the 11th Floating Casino License tied up by Blago (which Da Mare thinks is righfully that of the "People's Park," e.g, Meigs), who will someday be found floating in the river.....

Oh, I hear you and I agree. It MAY go for infrastructure, but the money now allocated for infrastructure will go elsewhere. Unless, of course, you consider the Meigs park & amphitheater to be "infrastructure".

Can't be blind to government accounting.

3rd World politics, in our nation's heartland! How wonderful!

IIRC, SWA, and possibly the other airlines, have been brought on board with this. They have been promised things like no increase in fees, etc. for X years.

I asked at an FBO today what the sale meant to them. They said that nothing should change initially. They just signed a lease with Chicago and presumed it would simply transfer to the new company. Their change, if any, would come when the lease was over/renegotiated. Didn't say how long the current lease was good for though.
