So I get this e-mail a week or so ago from a woman who’s unhappy because nobody’s writing about the horrendous impact the new Charter One Pavilion at Northerly Island is having on members of Chicago’s boating community.

She says that it’s an eyesore and, more importantly, noise from the concerts makes it difficult for her and her husband to enjoy a nice quiet evening on their 50-foot yacht, which sits on the water in nearby Burnham Harbor.

FYI, The "Charter One Pavilion at Northerly Island" is AKA the Clear Channel "temporary" placeholder at Meigs until they build the casino.

I guess the yacht set didn't have a problem with the noise of airplanes at Meigs, although we should remember that Meigs had a firm closing time of 10:00 PM. I once saw Hal Shavers of Sporty's run to be sure he could his Citation airborne in time.

Rich pilots hadta go. Rich boaters can stay until they need that harbor for the riverboat casino. (They already secretly did depth soundings for a big boat.)

Chicago got what they want. A mayor who does whatever he wants, a new park, and [soon] a whole casino complex. Those boaters probably haven't YET seen the demise of their 'club' but they will. If the mayor wants the docks, he'll claim those boats pose a security risk. He'll demand a TFR (Temporary Float Restriction).
See Ya!
