I have chronic low back pain. My pain specialist wants to prescribe Cymbalta for my the pain, he says many of his patients have found it very effective.

If I take Cymbalta for back pain is that allowed by the FAA for a 2nd Class medical?

Well it can be considered for the on SSRI program- that means certification with six month recurrent exam, neurocog....

I'll bet you resolve your back pain before the FAA gets to your application. If I heard Dr Giovanetti correctly they are TWO YEARS BEHIND on such applications.

Thanks dr… so does this mean that I would be treated as if I’m taking it for depression?

Have you exhausted other remedies like, chiropractors and or acupuncture?

You won't need the HIMS psychiatrist, just the testimony of the prescriber that you have no known psychiatry diagnosis. But the Ph.D. Brain efficiency - neurocog is coing to be a challenge. Cymbalta is one of the most reputed, for interfering with cognitive flexiblity.

I took cymbalta for a few months; it didn't help my lower back pain at all. Surgery helped immensily. My class III application was deferred as expected 5 months and 2 weeks ago in part due to this... still showing as 'Transmitted'.
