    Hi all,
My instructor and I (foolishly) forgot to apply for my student pilot certificate until Monday, but I have until Friday to get my first solo done. I've heard people say it takes anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks to get your temporary paper certificate. Could anybody who recently applied shed some light on their turnaround time?

I'm going back to my out of state college on Saturday, so I won't have an opportunity to fly at my home airport.

Consider yourself lucky if you get any document from the FAA in a 5 day or less turnaround.

I'm confused. I could be wrong because I'm just a student myself but don't you have to have your medical signed off first before you solo? If so, don't you have to have your student cert in order to do the medical?

The medical and student pilot certificates can be acquired in any order, but are required before solo (except a medical is not required to pursue a sport pilot certificate).

You plan to fly solo at an airport that your CFI has not provided instruction to you at? Or is your home airport your current location? It should still be there when you get back from college. ;)

Received By Airman Registry, as of several days ago. The temp certificate is online and printable, though. Edit: The certificate number still says pending though.

Yeah my CFI is super chill and he said the FAA would be cool with it... kidding of course. I plan to fly solo at my home airport, but it's looking like I'll be away at college by the time I get my temp cert.

So the first cert after passing check rides will take time. However, I found out if as soon as you have the temporary in hand and it states on iacra that they have received the information. You can request a replacement to the first card and it will come in less than a week. Done this multiple times for CFI.

Whoa that's quick! It took two months... and then another month and a half of operating under a temporary registration because somebody forgot to fill in the buyer information on the FAA registration form..... who would be so dumb...

    oh, yeah.... this guy.

Credit to the people working in OK, though. When I called to ask what the hold up was, I got a person on the phone and they were able to explain my mistake and that it wasn't that big of a deal. Super friendly, too.

When I did my training my 3rd class medical was my student pilot certificate. I walked out of the AME’s office with it. Did something change to make that harder?

    Yes... about 3-4 years ago.

In my opinion it isn’t more difficult, just different.

After a small number of days elapse allowing the system to verify info and details, the student can log back into IACRA and they will see the choice to print out a temporary certificate.
