I know we all have those airports where we’d say, “it’d be cool to fly here.” I was lucky enough to make it to one of mine over the weekend at Grand Canyon West (1G4). It sits on a reservation a couple hundred yards from the edge & makes for the most scenic pattern I’ve ever flown & best of all.... NO LANDING FEE! Anybody else who’s thought of this one of their buckets spots, I highly recommend. Here’s some pics from the pattern. & I also managed to do a fly by of the Hoover Dam en-route to my fuel stop at KHND.

Great pictures. On my list too. But someone will be along shortly to point out...

Great pictures! Glad that you could check off a bucket list item! :)

Surprised at the no landing fee, they usually nickel and dime you for everything

Been a while since I have been there. Really enjoyed my last time. Still no fuel for private aircraft? Still able to get a ride to the tourist events there?

They get you on the entrance fee to the park which $45 a person for the day. Compare that to the south rim where it’s only $35 per car for 6 or 7 days of access with in and out privileges.

Yep, still no fuel or any other service for that matter. Met us at the plane with a golf cart & they have shuttles running you to the different viewpoints once inside the park.

That's the place with the glass bridge ?

And the annual NPS Pass for $80 (cheaper if you are older) gets you 365 day access to all natural parks plus more..

Another place to easily fly into is Marble Canyon, L41. You can base at Page, AZ, and take a day trip here. The approach to the north is shown here. Have lunch at the restaurant across the street. Walk across the Grand Canyon Navajo Bridge, one for cars and the original one remains for walking, and look down some 400 feet to the Colorado. It’s a wonderful destination. You can also stay overnight at the Marble Canyon Lodge.

That airport didn't exist when I was flying tours in the canyon. I guess the park service ran them off...

I’m definitely looking to explore more landing spots around the canyon. The views are unmatched. Thanks for the tip

Grand Canyon Bar Ten on the north side is fun. One of the most challenging paved public use airports in AZ. Normally in to the north and out to the south with no go around below around 300’.

I currently live in CA, still just a student, but I grew up on a cattle ranch an hour and a half away from the canyon. I've still never been there. I'd love to do this one day... but first things first... haha

Just keep working at it & you’ll get there!
