I don't understand, what was the point of attempting a downwind landing? Is there a significant runway gradient?Winds were wildly variable. He started down the 'slope directly down wind, just before touchdown the wind gusted 30+ knots 90 degrees to the runway. He didn't have much of a chance to correct.
