Our club C172 just wants to turn left - no matter how I distribute the weight or who's in the A/C with me (same size or smaller) or which tank I burn the fuel off from first it wants to go left.

Now I know there's a manually bent rudder trim tab on the back of the rudder and it's bent all the way that our A&P says it can safetly be bent with out breaking it...

What I am hoping to discover is how you go about getting a 30 year old A/C re-rigged for straight and level and how much such an endeavor would cost our club.

Figure about $600 for someone who knows how to do it right. The Cessna Pilots Association runs a class on rigging and there are A&P's around the nation who have taken this course and are probably the best to go to.

This is a list of folks in the Great Lakes region who have taken the course.

I'm having an A-36 re rigged. My general observation is over time, different folks do different things to make up for how the plane's flying. Over a period of time, it just gets so bad, you have to start from scratch.

Beech has standards that instruct one to do it and I'm sure Cessna has the same. One can try working with someone local and following those instructions to get basic things straightened out, but if there are substantial issues, you really need a specialist.

In the case of my plane, both wings have been adjusted; we discovered the rudder has been worked on (not in the log books) and the vertical stabilizer is slightly twisted. Both flaps have been adjusted. All trim tabs have been readjusted and we're not done.

So, you kind of have to determine early on if there are minor things that may straighted it out, or if you really need a specialist.

Best,

Dave
