Great gallery pictures of old and new heavy military hardware in action.

There is a nice picture of the cabin of a Viet Nam Era YO-3 "Quiet Star". It was a spy plane designed to be barely audible at 200' AGL, and silent at 1,000'. Used at night to observe the enemy. Larry Vetterman, Vetterman Exhaust flew one in VN. His stories are amazing.

Cheers to Geico!
Before this post, I had never heard of the Lockheed YO-3. There were only eleven built as reconnaissance planes during the Vietnam War. Based on a Schweizer sailplane, they had massive reduction drives on their Continental IO-360 210 hp motors and turned just 800 rpm at the propeller. The exhaust went all the way down the right side of the fuselage and was inaudible more than 800 feet away.

Never shot down, never even got a bullet hole. Must have worked great!

I happened to be at the airport at Concord, CA last wek and got to see one of the planes in person. Here are pictures.

Geico266's link is defunct, but it's from three years ago. The ones I posted on the YO-3 are valid.
